Dolce & Gabbana's high-voltage look has rocked menswear for the past 20 years. Simon Chilvers salutes the duo's enduring brilliance

For the last two decades D&G are controlling men’s fashion on the runways. If you think that the famous clothing label did not influenced your wardrobe you would be surprised. We can thank Dolce & Gabbana for the low rise jeans and shredded pieces of fabric in our closets.Last weekend the duo celebrated their 20th anniversary of menswear with an exhibition of their work in Milan's City Hall. The Dolce catwalk is famous for its unbuttoned shirts to the naval and six packs accessorized with crocodile man bags but what the brand really offers is wearable clothes. This is the secret to Dolce and Gabbana’s success. While many labels reverted to a skinny waif look, Dolce & Gabbana has chosen to hire super-buff male models this kept the label in the fashion spotlight.

Who does not know or did not see one of Dolce & Gabbana’s famous fashion pictures. We recognize the ads from the distend while we are waiting for the bus or train. I agree with the writer of the article that D&G has influenced our clothing habits. Ripped jeans and v-neck shirts are a good example of how D&G influenced the way man dress nowadays.
